Unwind Karde :)
I wanted to start the new year by giving free rein to my passion for travel and photography and I did it only in the new year. I went from Mumbai to Cardi to start the new year all over again! I spent a few days enjoying the seafood and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets!
We left home at 06:30 on the first day of 2010 and got on NH17.
We had the Moon with us all the time.
The first sunrise of the year was a wonderful sight from the Panville sidewalk.
We had dosa for breakfast at Kamaths in Mahad and went to Khed on our way to Dapoli and Karde where we booked a room at the Kinara Hotel.
I arrived at the hotel at 12:30 after covering 290 km. Our lunch order was confirmed by the hotel by phone the day before. This is the practice of all hotels in the area, so you can't just walk around and expect to be served. Food orders must be submitted at least several hours in advance.
We had an excellent fish thali and a delicious vegetarian thali, then went back to the room and rested for a while before heading to Harnai beach to watch the fish auction.
Harnai beach is about 8 kilometers away, and we reach it by a left path by car.
The ships arrived and the auction was in full swing.
What impressed us was the way the fish was transported from the boats to the shore.
The boats can't get ashore because of the shallow water, so the bullock carts, yes the bullock carts, carry bags of ice to the boats, load the fish into plastic boxes on the ice and carry them back to shore.
It was fun to see all the beach activities and click through. We spent about an hour there after that.
When we returned to our fully decorated hotel to celebrate 2010.
On the way back we discover this canyon in Harnay.
Watch the sunset create a magical atmosphere with paragliding activities on the beach.
We had a delicious fish dinner! Early retirement for the day as I had to get up early for the sunrise boat trip to see the dolphins.
I saw this heavenly show from the balcony at 6 am.
The boat was supposed to arrive at the hotel to pick us up at 7am.
In fact, we saw the boat arrive on time and we were with 8 other tourists,
They were assisted by the crew on board. And we went looking for the elusive dolphins.
We were able to locate some within half an hour's drive which cost us just Rs. 100/- each.
The sunrise from the sea was amazing!
We enjoy the beauty as we return to the hotel, have breakfast 'Kanda Pohey' and prepare to visit 'Kadyaarcha Ganapati' which is about 20 kilometers from the hotel in Anjarle.
He had a peaceful darshan of this legendary idol. This idol is believed to have washed ashore from the sea at Anjarli and was installed on the cliff with wooden poles around 1150. It was then renovated between 1768 and 1780.
The Ganesh idol bust is bent to the right, which is very rare. Kadyaarcha Ganapati is also considered a living deity (Jagrut Daiwat) who responds to calls for help from ordinary people (Nawsala Pavnara Ganapati).
"Ashtavinayak" is enclosed in the dome of this temple.
Next to this temple is a small Shiva Mandir.
We sat for a while and went back to the hotel for another delicious meal of fish and Falash beer.
I walked on the beach in the afternoon and watched the beautiful sunset.
There was an unusual prawn biryani for dinner that night. Biryani had malawani flavor and was very tasty! And of course every meal is accompanied by delicious selcadÃs.
We got up early because it was our last morning at Karde and we wanted to capture as much as possible the atmosphere of a beautiful morning on the beach.
I took a long walk on the beach and came back to Mumbai around 9:30 am. But he planned to stop along the way.
There used to be this beautiful ancient temple at Murud Harnai, just two kilometers from Karde.
Murud is also the birthplace of the great freedom fighter Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dondo Karvi who placed a bust in front of the Durga Devi temple.
This Durga Devi temple was built almost 300 years ago and Pujari confirmed that he is the sixth generation to look after the temple.
The carved wooden pillars of the temple are beautiful.
Ganesha temple in the building.
There is a big bell at the entrance of the temple. The temple dog told us that he was brought in by Chimaji Appa after he conquered the Vasai Castle from one of the churches there.
We have breakfast in Dapoli and return to Mumbai via Mandangad covering a distance of 249 km.
The roads were mostly good and there was little traffic. The road was just bumpy in places - dirt.
I arrived in Mumbai at 4.30pm after a magical Cardi vacation.
