Maharashtra Nature Park

On Saturday we decided to fulfill our wish and visit Mahim Nature Park now known as Maharashtra Nature Park near Dharavi.

I had heard and read a lot about this place as a "place" for nature lovers. I love nature and wanted to see this paradise. Established by WWF-India in the late 1970s, it was decided to rehabilitate and ecologically develop an area of about 37 ha in Block 'H' of the Bandra-Kurla Cluster, which was previously a dump or dump. natural Park. by MRMDA. It is located on the Bandra-Sion canal on the south bank of the Mithi River.

MNP is home to many butterflies and more than 80 species of birds.

Common butterfly species found in Mumbai are Swallow, Common Mormon, Blue Mormon, Pochat Jay, Lime Butterfly, Red Helena, Commander, and Common Blue Bottle.

In addition, 200 tree species were listed, many of which were planted naturally by birds and insects.

Adjacent to the park is Mahim Creek, which maintains a lush evergreen mangrove forest.

This estuarine vegetation and surrounding marshes provide habitat for migratory and waterfowl this winter on the Indian subcontinent. Because of this, the park has become a particularly popular spot for bird watchers from mid-October through February and March.
Although the waters of the Mithi River are highly polluted, the park and the surrounding mangroves provide resting places for thousands of birds.
Unfortunately my visit to the park was out of season. However, I was not disappointed.
In addition to being able to identify ravens and sparrows, I enjoy bird music and was lucky enough to be introduced to bird watching by an avid bird watcher. He pointed out the different species and taught me to associate the different bird songs with the species.
I allowed myself to capture as much beauty as possible on camera and enjoyed the experience.
It definitely made me realize how we neglect beauty in our garden. Now I promise to visit at least once a month and with each visit I will learn to see and catch a different bird.
An orientation and translation service is offered to visitors upon request, which must be booked in advance.
