Mandu- Steeped in history!

Mandu or Mandbaghad are the ruins of an ancient city in the western state of Madhya Pradesh. Located 100 km from Indore, this walled city is famous for its architectural beauty.
It was an important garrison and had a military past with 37 kilometers of walls and 12 gates.
Apparently, Mandu was a fortified city even in the 6th century BC, but became famous in the 10th and 11th centuries under Parmaras, who named it Mandabhagarh. It had a long history under various Rajputs, Mughal and Maratha rulers, but as the Marathasundar Maharaja Pawar moved to seize the capital city of Malwa, with the flight of Baj Bahadur, Mandu's wealth began to decline.
Jahaas Mahal or Jahaas Palace, is located between two man-made lakes. This two-story architectural marvel is named after a ship that floats on water. Built by Sultan Ghiyas-Din-Khilji, it served as a harem for the Sultan.
Hindola Mahal or Swinging Palace got its name because of its curved walls. Hindola Mahal was probably built around 1425 during the reign of Hushang Shah.

The Tomb of Hoshang Shah is India's first marble structure and one of the finest examples of Afghan architecture. Distinctive features include beautifully proportioned domes, intricate marble inlays, porticoes and minarets. It served as a model for the construction of the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Clock Mosque. Inspired by the Great Mosque of Damascus, this beautiful structure is striking in its simplicity and architectural style, with a large courtyard and front entrance.
The Rupimathy Pavilion, today called the Rupimathy Pavilion, was a large sandstone structure built as an army observation post. Rani Rupmati - Baj Bahadur's love flower resides here and Baj Bahadur's palace is said to have been seen beneath it as well as the river that glorifies the queen as Norm's driver passes through the plains of Nimar.
Bahadur Steel Palace. Built by Baj Bahadur, this 16th century building is famous for its spacious courtyard.
It is surrounded by a large hall and high terrace. It lies under Rupimathy Mandapam and is visible from Mandapam.

By Air - Indore Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is the closest airport to Mandu. 100 km from Mandu Airport.
by train. The nearest train station is at Ratlam, 125 km from Mandu. The station is well connected to other major cities in India and is an important hub of the Western Railway.
by bus. Regular luxury buses and luxury junior buses operate from Indore (100 km), Bhopal (278 km), Ratlam (125 km) and Ujjain.
