Indore in Madhya Pradesh

From Mandu I traveled to Indore, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh.

Our first stop was ShreeMalhari Martand Mandir, which has built and maintains a museum of sorts.

The ancient royal family of Indore - the Holkars. It is behind the Holkar Rajwadaor Palace.

There is nothing special to do in the palace, you can only walk around the courtyard to pay and take pictures, standing at the entrance.
The Holkars are Hindus of the Shaivite sect, whose chief deity is Khande Rao (Khandoba or Malhari Martand) of Jejuri, near Pune.

Holkar's symbol is the sun beneath a royal umbrella, a broad sword crossing a spear over a field of wheat and poppies, representing Nandi seated and rearing a horse.
The sun is the symbol of the Suryavamsha clans of Udaipur, from which the Holkars are said to have descended. The umbrella, apart from being a symbol of the state, is also a reference to the legend associated with the beginning of Malhar Rao I's reign.

the founder of this house, according to which a cobra once protected him from the sun while he slept, with his hood thrown over his head. Nandi is the sacred bull of Shiva, especially worshiped by the Holkars. The horse and sword also symbolize the warrior god Khade Rao, an avatar of Shiva and family protector, whose main temple is at Jejur, near Pune. The spear was the favorite weapon of the founder of this dynasty, while wheat and poppy were the main products of the state.

A short drive away is the beautifully preserved Nerucenter, originally the palace of the Lalbag Holkars.
All past digs have left our tummies rumbling for food, and what better place than Indore.

Chhapang Dukan, a street with 56 shops selling delicious food, snacks and sweets!
Satisfy our taste buds and satiate our hunger.
