Glimpses of Raigad fort
Raigad is a hill fort in the Raigad District of Mahad, India. Raigad Fort, formerly known as Rairi, was built by Jawali King Chandraroji More. When Shivaji Maharaj was proclaimed king of the Maratha Empire in 1674, he made it the capital of what later became the Maratha Empire, which eventually encompassed most of western and central India.
In 1765, Fort Raigad, along with Malwan, was the target of an armed campaign by the British East India Company in the Sindhudurg district of southern Maharashtra.
In 1818, the fortress was bombed and destroyed from Kalkai Hill. And on May 9, 1818, according to the agreement, it was handed over to the British East India Company.
The fortress is 820 meters above sea level and is located in the Sahyadri range. There are about 1737 steps to the fort. There is a Raigad cable car, a cable car and it only takes 4 minutes to reach the top.
Raigad Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharashtra and the chief architect/engineer was Hiroji Indulkar. The main palace was built of wood, leaving only the pillars of the foundations. The main ruins of the palace are the Queen's Apartments, six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Also in front of the palace you can see the ruins of the three watchtowers, of which only two remain because the third was destroyed by a bomb. Raigad Fort also has market ruins accessible to knights. It overlooks an artificial lake known as Ganga Sagar Lake.
