Glimpses of Ranakpur temple

Ranakpur Jain Temple or Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara is a Jain temple in Ranakpur dedicated to Tirthankar Rishabhanath. The temple is located in Ranakpur, near the town of Sadri, in the Pali district of Rajasthan.
Dharna Shah, a local Jain businessman, started building the temple in the 15th century after a magical vision. Inspired by the dream of a celestial vehicle, Dharna Shah began its construction in 1389 under the auspices of Rana Kumbha, the then ruler of Mewar. The architect who led the project was called Dvapa. On a pillar near the main shrine, there is an inscription indicating that the architect Deepaka built the temple in 1439 at the behest of Dharanka, a devout Jain. Construction continued until 1458. However, as the audio guide presented to the site visitors shows, the construction lasted fifty years (2785 people participated). Another source reports that construction continued until 1496, fifty years after 1446. The city of Ranakpur and the temple are named after the reigning monarch of the province, Rana Kumbha, who supported the construction of the temple.
