Glimpses of Kumbhalgarh fort

Kumbhalgarh is a Mewar fort located on the western edge of the Araballi Hills in the Rajsamand district near Udaipur in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a world heritage site that includes the hill forts of Rajasthan. Built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbhoy and inhabited until the end of the 19th century, the fort is now open to the public and spectacularly illuminated for a few minutes every evening.

Kumbhalgarh is 82 km northwest of Udaipur by road. It is the most important fort in Mewar after Chittorgarh Fort.

In 2013, during the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Kumbhalgarh Fort, along with five other forts in Rajasthan, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Rajasthan Group of Mountain Forts.

The fort is one of the largest fort complexes in the world and the second largest fort in India after Chittor Fort.
