Chalo Chor Bazaar - Travel Time Article

Chalo Chor Bazaar

Located in south Mumbai, Chor Bazar is one of the largest flea market in India. The word 'chor' means thief in both Marathi and Hindi languages. It is believed that the market was originally called Shore Bazaar , which means bustling market. The current name is said to be derived from a British misspelling. But in the end, stolen goods began to appear on the market, which allowed him to keep his new name. According to a famous legend, if you lose something in Mumbai, you can buy it again at the flea market. Despite this reputation, flea markets mostly sell used goods, not stolen goods.

A common story about the origin of the name of the market is that Queen Victoria's violin and some other possessions were lost while being unloaded from her ship during a visit to Bombay and were later sold at the 'thieves' market.

Walk with me to this legendary flea market in Mumbai and see if we can find something to buy. If nothing else, the ambiance of the place will be stimulated!
