A piece of heaven - Kashmir – Part 1

Afarsi couplet by Amir Khusra

Agar Firdaus bar ru-e zamin ast,
Hamen ast-oh Hamen ast-oh Hamen ast.

Translation, meaning

If there is heaven on earth,
That, that, that

We, a group of 14 friends who spent more than a week in Kashmir, have no doubt that Kashmir is truly a paradise on earth where we experienced the warmth of brotherhood and unparalleled hospitality. Despite what the media reports, we did not see a single violent incident during our stay there. The trips organized by ScoutMyTrip , were great for us as we arranged all the transport and accommodation at a very reasonable price.
On arrival at Srinagar airport, a local guide met us and took us to a beautiful houseboat on the Dal Lake. After 30+C in Mumbai, 18C is a relief. Dal is a lake in Srinagar (Dal lake is a misnomer because Dal means lake in Kashmir). The lake covers an area of 18 square kilometers with an average depth of 4.7 feet and a maximum depth of 20 feet.

After dropping off our bags at the room on the houseboat, we freshened up and were taken to one.

Shikara led a tour of the Dal Lake through local craft shops. The most interesting thing is the timing

During our trip to Shikara, we had a sale from Shikara selling jewelry, coats and hats, as well as snacks and drinks!

On the way back to our houseboat, while we were preparing a delicious dinner, a hunter passed by.

Along with a mobile braai that makes some delicious barbecues. It was truly a unique experience for us!

The next day we went on a tour of the beautiful gardens of Srinagar. The first is glasses

Shahi Park was built around the fountain by Ali Mardan Khan, the governor of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632 AD. It was a gift from the emperor to his eldest son, Prince Dara Shiko.

Our next stop was the Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden, founded in 1969 in memory of our rose-loving first prime minister. This park has a collection of about 150,000 ornamental plants

Plants, as well as a large collection of oak varieties. It also has a rare collection of Kashmiri tropical plants.

And then there was the show: The Tulip Garden at the Indira Gandhi Memorial! This is the biggest tulip

We are missing the Shalimar Bagh, which is considered one of the largest gardens of the Mughals. The garden was built in 1619 by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan.

An untimely rain stopped us from traveling further to the beautiful tiger and brought us back to the houseboat.

Our brief relationship with Srinagar ended the next morning when we left for Gulmarg .
