Kolad - Adventure and rejuvenation
If you live in Mumbai and have some time for thrilling white water rafting or perhaps to be one with nature, hop on your bike / car and head to Kolad, 140km away!
Yes, the Kundalika River is fed by various dams at certain times, when the dams allow excess water to enter the river, the fun begins. We did it on a beautiful Saturday morning, even though we didn't have rafting on our schedule.
We want to relax on the shores of Lake Sutarwadi, where this beautiful "Pooja Farms" resort is located. The journey took about three hours and once there we settled into a nice air-conditioned cabin. The afternoon was dedicated to visiting the city and the atmosphere to relax from the stress of the city. Soon it was time to see the sky illuminated by the setting sun. Watching the sunset was great.
We had an early dinner and, feeling completely relaxed, retired early for the day. We were told it started at ten in the morning and if we wanted to see the action we were told to go to a nearby village and ask the local kids to guide us to a lookout where we could watch the adventurers strolling by. I wake up in the morning to catch the sunrise and wake up early. Not disappointed.
After a good breakfast we headed to the place where we could get it.
The views of the Kundalika River before and after the water is released from the dam and also while crossing the river crest are breathtaking.
We met enthusiastic young people from the village. They also gladly directed us to that place to earn money. The river looked like a stream when we first saw it. The men told us how high the dam would be after it was cleared and showed us where to rest and in the meantime set up our firing station.
Running to the incoming water. The sound of the brook quickly turned into the roar of running water. And then us
I have seen dragons roar with joy. The beauty of this river is that the dams release water every morning and the river is large enough for a fun rapid that you can paddle all year round. We went back to the train station for lunch, after which we rested for a while and returned to Mumbai rested and ready to face the chaos of the city .
