A memorable road trip - Part 2

"Travel is not always pleasant. It is not always convenient. Sometimes it hurts, even breaks the heart. But it is all right. Travel changes you - it should change you. It leaves a mark on your memory, on your conscience, on your heart, and on you. take something with you… I hope you leave something good behind,” says Anthony Bourdain.
The above quote is very relevant to our journey from Gorakhpur to Kathmandu. Read on to find out why.
We left Gorakhpur early as we were advised to pass Narayangada in the afternoon as the road would be closed later for surface repairs. We also had to get a permit for our cars in Sonauli, the border town between India and Nepal, and we didn't know how long it would take. So we are back to our lovely trip to OYO Rooms in Kathmandu, Nepal. We saw him on the street

Beautiful sunrise and soon we reached Sonauli.

Our ScoutMy Trip drivers have arranged Nepali vehicle permits and SIM cards for us. Before we could say #HelloNepal, we were ready to go ahead and say goodbye to India and be welcomed back by the good roads of Nepal.

The universe seems to have heard some of us complaining that we are fed up with the good but boring trails and conspired to give us an unforgettable experience!
The shortest route from Sonauli to Kathmandu was around 280 km, but the catch here is that you have to cross Narayangarh before noon. Otherwise, this road will be closed due to road repair and asphalting. And if we could, then a distance of 280 km would take us about 8 hours. So far the roads have been great and scenic! We made a quick stop for breakfast and reached Narayangarh at 11:30, half an hour ahead of schedule. But when you travel, things don't go according to plan, do they? We saw a bunch of trucks flashing down the road and beat them all Indian style. When we got to the front of the queue, we found that the road was already closed. We ask why as the security staff told us to get back in line because queue jumping is not enforced. He also told us to eat at the restaurant that the wait would be four or five hours! Sow took the next best step by consulting Google Maps and choosing an alternative 365km route that would have taken 13 hours. Then the fun and games began. This track was fun for off road drivers. To add a ringing touch to the adventure

And the lightning did its best to light the way forward. Yes, it rains too. But we took it like seasoned roadies, joking, singing and cheering for every bit of tar, while I clung on for dear life as the car rocked and rolled down the road!
We arrived at OYO rooms in Kathmandu at 9:30 PM instead of 7:00 PM as planned. We are accepted

Very friendly hotel staff and they went out of their way to get us to our rooms in the shortest possible time. The efficiency was amazing!
Knowing how tired we would all be from dinner, they offered to meet us by taxi the next day.

Traditional Nepalese greetings at CMO Scout My Trips .

The next day, the general manager of the hotel personally greeted us with a traditional tikka and scarf, followed by a sumptuous breakfast.

Bloggers in a truck go to explore Nepal

As promised, the truck stopped at the hotel door at 10:00 and took us to the famous hotel.

Pashubasinath Temple. Built in the 5th century and later restored, it is one of the four most important religious sites in Asia for Shiva devotees.

Bodanilkantha Temple is an open air temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Temple of Pashupatinath (Lord Shiva), Budhanilkantha (Lord Vishnu resting on his knees.

Swayambhu Stupa - It is a place of pilgrimage for Hindus, Vajrayana Buddhists and Newari Buddhists .

The Serpent Temple and, finally, the Swayambhu Stupa.

To end the day in style, we enjoyed a traditional Nepali evening of rice wine and Nepali thali accompanied by some traditional Nepali folk dances.

Patan Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The next day the truck again showed us Patan Durbar and Bhaktapur Durbar. these two

Bhaktapur Square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It took a whole day to explore the historical sites and it was worth it. So if the first day is dedicated to religious sites, then the second day is dedicated to exploring the historical beauty of Nepal. Both were amazing! Some also went to Thamel for shopping. I skipped it and retired early to soak up the memories made so far.
Note to travelers: Gas stations in Kathmandu are closed by 6 am, so plan your trip accordingly.
Our trip to Nepal will end early in the morning, we will return to Delhi via Gorakhpur and Agra. And this time, we were determined to follow the path that cleverly avoided our entrance.

Join me again in the next post to find out what happened.
