Amritsar
When we got to Amritsar, the first thing we visited was the Golden Temple. Harmandir Sahib, also known as Darbar Sahib, is a Sikh golden gurdwara in Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the holiest Gurudwara and the most important pilgrimage site for Sikhs. Founded in 1574 by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das, and completed in 1604. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was there
who covered it with gold in 1830, two centuries after its construction. It took 162 kg of 24 kg of gold, which was worth about Rs 65 at the time. Renovated again in the 90s with 500 kg of gold.
If you are driving around Amritsar with your own car/van, it will be better to park it at your hotel place and take a local auto rickshaw/rickshaw like Old Amritsar Road.
The attractions and shopping are very cramped and the flow of traffic and people is really chaotic.
The next morning we visited Jallianwala Bagh, a public park destroyed by the massacre of the peaceful Indians a hundred years ago on the 13th. Among the Indians gathered to celebrate Baisakhi.
Hundreds of people jumped into the bug pit to escape the gunfire.
The bullet holes in the walls are still preserved in memory of the martyrs.
Next visit is the Durgiana Temple, modeled after the Golden Temple. before
It was built in the architectural style of the Golden Sikh Temple by Guru Harsai Mal Kapur in 1921 and inaugurated by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, an Indian educationist and politician known for his role in the Indian freedom movement.
The evening was reserved for the "Defeating Retreat" ceremony at Attari on the Indo-Pak border, where patriotic performances took place every evening at the lowering of the respective flags.
Border guards from both countries at the door, supported by nationalist slogans from both sides. This is a very popular show and very well organized.
